The exhibition takes place on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of Meister der Einbandkunst MDE – internationale Vereinigung e. V. and gives an insight into the development of contemporary artistic binding in Germany - from the beginnings in the hand-binding departments of the Leipzig bookbinderies in the early 20th century to the present day.

Handbound books, coloured papers, design concepts, tools, materials and workshop impressions document the continuous development of binding art, change and innovations in design and craftsmanship techniques as well as influences from neighbouring European countries using examples from the Association of Masters of Binding Art MDE.

The exhibition is accompanied by an extensive catalogue, which can be purchased in the exhibitions or via the MDE Aachen office.
